Fort Erie
On the south coast of Niagara, Fort Erie is wrapped along the east side by the Niagara River with the beautiful beaches of Lake Erie across the south.
Similar to Niagara-on-the-Lake, Fort Erie also played a significant role in the War of 1812. If you are looking for an interesting read, look into the siege of Fort Erie. When you make the drive along the Niagara River Parkway from Niagara-on-the-Lake to Fort Erie, the landscape and distance really put things in perspective.
One feature of Fort Erie that people appreciate is the quick access over to Buffalo from the Peace Bridge. Heading south? The Buffalo Niagara International Airport is around 30km away! Baseball fan? The Buffalo Bisons (Toronto Blue Jays feeder team) play at Sahlen Field which is just 12 km away as well.
